Kal's Castle II
Story:
You were knocked out and locked up in a room in a house full of goblins. You managed to escape alive by exiting through the roof.
Controls:
You can navigate menus with the up and down arrows and you can confirm with SPACE or RETURN. Clicking on the menu items to select choices and clicking on the screen to advance dialogue also works.
Gameplay:
The "acc" percentage in the battle screen is the probability you have of being hit by picking this option (see difficulty to see what this does). You can spend Defense Points (DP) to get 100% survival rate but if you fall below 0 DP you instantly die. To recover DP you need to take risks (use attacks with lower acc).
Difficulty adjustments :
- Easy: When you are hit you lose 1 DP. There is way less monsters.
- Normal: When you are hit you lose 3 DP. There is a bit less monsters.
- Insane: When you are hit you die. (This is the original difficulty)
The number at the top of the screen is the identifier of the room you are in, except during fights where it is the number of the monster you are fighting (so 3/10 means you are currently fighting the 3rd monster out of 10).
Tips:
Drawing a map on a piece of paper could be useful.
You can complete the game in 3 minutes if you know what you are doing
You can get a few items that will help you in your quest (and make battles way easier).
There are four possible endings, each ending will give you a hint on how to get the best ending.
Dev's comments:
The original Game was made around 1998 in ti-basic on a TI-83 plus calculator. At the request of one of my friends I decided to port it to pygame-ce and publish it. I might port the other entries of the series eventually. Added some music and sfx as a bonus.
There was no difficulty slider in the original game, I decided to make de game brutal since it was so short and my friend could read the code to get hints. If headbutting in a wall until you win is not your thing, consider playing on normal first.
I liked the split square aesthetic of the text on the calculator screen so I made a custom font just to get the same vibe.
I lost the code from Kal's Castle I but it was a very simple game, I might remake it.
